TE 846: Accommodating Difference in Literacy Learners
Instructor: Marliese Peltier
Description: TE 846 focused on student differences in learning how to read and write effectively. Throughout the course, many ways and tools to increase student motivation were brought to light. In the end there was a big project that focused around background information and strategies. More specifically, this project included tracking a student and his or her learning abilities in reading and writing, diving into why students do what they did, specifically, figuring out what I could do in the classroom to help the student learn better. I spent time with one particular student tracking his home and family, emotional climate, literacy history, ability to complete lessons with reading and writing, and I took all of that information to develop a report/summary of results and a reading and writing educational plan for this particular student.

ED 800: Concepts Educational Inquiry
Instructor: Steven Weiland
Description: ED 800 helped familiarize concepts within education inquiry. Each unit in this course focused on a specific part of inquiry progressing from history to utilizing inquiry in the classroom. One focus area for me was trying to determine if technology is actually helping or hurting education. A second area of inquiry for me was looking into the idea that how we read affects how we learn, for example, reading throughly vs. skimming. This self-paced class allowed me to progress at my own pace taking in as much knowledge as physically possible over the semester. Knowledge is limitless due to all of the hyperlinks embedded in the lectures. This course allowed for reading, reflecting, and creation of essays depicting knowledge gained.

CEP 813: Electronic Assessment for Teaching and Learning
Instructors: Dr. Paul Morsink and Sarah Keenan
Description: CEP 813 focused around assessment and evaluation of student learning using online education platforms. This class helped prepare me with knowledge of teaching online courses. The idea of teaching with the end in mind allowed me to strive to help my students create mastery over their education. One of the goals of CEP 813 was to develop meaningful, real life learning experiences with technology. Electronic Assessment for Teaching and Learning gave me the opportunity to learn about a tool/idea, explore it, create an example, and then share out my findings, likes, or dislikes. CEP 813 offered something that I normally do not have enough of, time to play with technology to learn. One technology learning technique was to use Minecraft to create an assignment for students, playing a game while learning!
TE 843: Secondary Reading Assessment and Instruction
Instructor: Ashley Johnson
Description: TE 843 focused around adolescent literacy education. One main focus for this class was determining what is reading, why do people actually read, and interestingly, why do people read together? This course allowed me to look at my classroom to gather information in order to help me answer those particular questions. Through this research I was able to better understand the readers in my classroom, what were some of the goals for reading, and what were students actually learning or gaining from reading. All of this information gathered was then transformed into an informational writing piece for a final project. This included lesson plans, analyzing texts, and a unit plan.

CEP 820: Teaching Students Online
Instructor: Anne Heintz
Description: CEP 820 was about helping to create an online education that meets the needs of students as well as to use technology to increase communication and collaboration. This course helped me understand the direct difference in teaching students online vs. face-to-face classes. It also helped to bring up strengths and weakness of teaching online classes, specifically dealing with resources, technology, and lessons. Lastly one of the main ideas was to understand the importance of knowing and implementing digital citizenship as well as being able to teach students technology/internet etiquette and safety. CEP 820 included readings, reflecting and the opportunity to be hands on as it required me to actually create parts of an online class using a platform of their choice.

CEP 817: Learning Technology through Design
Instructor: Carmen Richardson
Description: CEP 817 strived to instill the importance of education and design. The class was built around traveling through the modules of introduction, empathize, define, ideate, prototype, test, conclusion. Each module included instruction, learning by experiencing, and then finding a way to display the information gained in real life situations. There was one big project during this class focused on finding possible solutions to a problem that could arise in a classroom based on input from teachers, students, parents, and many others.

CEP 815: Technology and Leadership
Instructors: Rohit Mehta and Kyle Shack
Description: CEP 815 focused on helping me become a technology leader. The course helped me create and understand a shared vision of what is the definition of technology - this helped me better understand how to become a leader. Also introduced in this class were different types of leaders, what it looks like to be a good leader, and what quality traits a good leader displays. One thing this class taught was to understand that technology is constantly changing and therefore technology leaders need to be aware and ready to implement these changes. As a leader it is important to gain an understanding of my own personal strengths and weaknesses as well as be able to use others strengths to help accomplish tasks. One of the big projects was incorporating twitter as a tool for professional development and learning.
TE 848: Writing Assessment and Instruction
Instructor: Scott Jarvie
Description: TE 848 had a purpose of figuring out what exactly is writing (this is constantly changing with technology), why do people actually write, how and why do we learn to write, what does it look like to learn to write, how can I actually know if a student is learning when they are writing, in what ways can I teach writing so that students can learn better writing skills, how can I teach students to realize that writing is a form of conversation, and lastly how do I help students understand that reading is meaningful and matters. All of these big ideas from this course helped guide the production of an in-depth research project on a topic related to writing. This writing included educational sources backing up my thoughts on writing as well as how my main idea could apply to teaching and helping students with their writing development.

TE 831: Teaching School Subject Matter with Technology
Instructor: Douglas Hartman
Description: TE 831 supplied me with strategies to teach specific subject matter, such as English, with technology. This course introduced the concept of TPACK (Technological, Pedagogical, and Content Knowledge), and a world of digital: citizenship, literacy, immigrants, natives, storytelling. Also studied were the pros and cons for students and teachers of including technology in the classroom. One of the most effective projects in this course was creating a digital story. This allowed me as the teacher to play with technology and see how students could benefit from quick online videos based on content necessary to meet standards.

ED 870: Capstone Seminar
Instructors: Matthew Koehler, Spencer Greenhalgh, Sarah Keenan Lechel, Brittany Dillman
Description: ED 870 was designed to display the individual in a positive way in hopes to fulfill a future want or need. Time was spent creating a webpage focusing on what the individual has done successfully throughout his or her time at Michigan State University. The idea was that in the end there was a product that could be used to obtain a future job, to share with administrators, or to share with parents and students. The website advertises me as the teacher, coursework obtained, and future goals.
